Jamie Foxx returning as Electro in the next MCU Spider-Man film

Are we getting a full-on live-action Spider-Verse now?

Jamie Foxx is going to reportedly return as Electro in the next Spider-Man movie, starring Tom Holland.

If your mind is not fully-blown by that, let me explain. Jamie Foxx played the bad guy in The Amazing Spider-Man  - which was the last of the Andrew Garfield-starring Spider-Man films. But now it looks like he is going be entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe somehow.

There is no word if this will be directly linked to the Andrew Garfield films, or if Jamie Foxx will just be playing the character again with no connection to the previous film he appeared in.

Of course, there is precedent for this. At the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home [SPOILER], JK Simmons appears playing Daily Bugle editor J Jonah Jameson. Simmons played Jonah in Tobey Maguire trilogy, though again, as it was just a mid-credits sting, we don't know if it is meant to be the same version, or they just cast JK Simmon again because JK Simmons is amazing.

Not only that, the trailer for Morbius, the Sony-produced Jared Leto-starring movie about the Spidey antagonist, features Michael Keaton, seemingly reprising his role as the Vulture from Spider-Man: Far From Home. It was originally presumed that the Song produced Spidey spin-offs like Venom and Morbius were in their own continuity, but who knows now?

Sadly, Morbius was delayed until next year, so we will have wait that bit longer to find out.

This might all just be a case of casting good actors in roles they played before, and nothing to do with some big ol' multiverse shenanigans. But Jamie Foxx's Electro was not a character many fans were clamouring for a return to.

DC is seemingly playing a similar trick with their movies at the same time, with both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton set to play different versions of Batman in the upcoming Flash movie, and the likes of Christian Bale, George Clooney and Val Kilmer also rumoured to have been offered cameos.
