Viewers all say the same thing about Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser after controversial jokes

The comedian didn’t hold back

Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser has been praised by viewers for her performance at the awards ceremony, which included some risqué jokes.

The comedian, best known for her appearances in celebrity roasts, was hosting the awards for the first time, replacing last year’s host Jo Koy.

And whilst Koy got a lukewarm reception last year, everyone was full of praise for Glaser.

For an awards night host, the opening monologue is make or break – and Glaser smashed it, taking aim at the stars in attendance.

During the monologue, she joked that the awards were “Ozempic’s biggest night”, mocked the celebs in attendance for their political endorsements, said Selena Gomez’s fiance Benny Blanco was only there because a ‘genie had granted him a wish’, and even decided to make a controversial joke about Diddy.

The comedian also joked about Joker 2 not getting any nominations, asking “where’s their table,” and said she didn’t know much about Wicked before the film came out “because I had friends in high school.”

It wasn’t just the celebs and their projects that she joked about, with Glaser also making a jibe about her own employers Paramount+, reminding viewers they “have six days left to cancel your free trial.”

The BBC’s Steven McIntosh described Glaser as the best Golden Globes host since Ricky Gervais, and the reaction was similarly positive on social media.

One person said: “Please have her back again and again!”

A second posted: “Nikki Glaser’s intro was gold! Great Job!”

“Yay, Nikku Glaser made award shows hosting funny again,” another added.

Someone else said her performance was the “perfect amount of energy and humour,” with another writing that Glaser was “killing it.”

Meanwhile, American comedian and Daily Show host Jon Stewart said Glaser was “very very good at this.”

Here are just a selection of Glaser’s best jokes from the night:

  • ‘I look out and see some of the hardest working actors in showbusiness. And by that, I mean your servers. They’ll be bringing you your cocktails to drink and your food, which you’ll look at.’
  • ‘Even Eddie Redmayne did TV this year, he’s nominated for Peacock’s The Day of the Jackal. It’s about a top secret elite sniper that no-one can find because he’s on Peacock.’
  • ‘Zendaya, you were incredible in Dune, I woke up for all of your scenes.’
  • ‘We can’t talk about movies tonight without talking about Wicked. I did not know much about Wicked going into this year because I had friends in high school.’
  • ‘I’m sorry Joker 2, where’s their table? Oh, they’re not here.’
