From Wallace & Gromit to Gavin & Stacey, the eagerly anticipated Christmas Day schedule is here

The BBC One Christmas Day schedule for 2024 has been revealed in full.

Arguably the biggest fixture in the TV calendar, Christmas Day always means we’ll be getting some huge shows and festive specials on the box.

Whether you enjoy a film in the morning after you’ve opened presents, the words of a royal before you tuck into your turkey, or just need something to sit down and watch whilst you build up to the next round of food and drink, we all love a bit of Christmas TV.

And 2024 looks like it could be one of the best ever Christmas Day schedules.

We already knew this Christmas was going to be a big one, following two huge announcements this year.

The first was that we would be getting a one final Gavin & Stacey episode, to finally give us answers to the huge cliffhanger five years ago. The second was that everyone’s favourite a new Wallace & Gromit film was on the way, which by all accounts is absolutely brilliant.

But with these two huge broadcasts, combined with all the usual festive specials such as Strictly Come Dancing, Doctor Who, EastEnders and Call The Midwife, many have been wondering how the BBC were going to fit all the shows into one day of scheduling.

Well, wonder no more, because the full schedule is here, giving us the timing for each show and revealing how long each will last.

After some film fun in the morning and early afternoon- perfect to sit young faces in front of if you need a moment of peace and quiet – the King’s Speech will be broadcast at the traditional time of 3pm.

This will then be followed by festive editions of The Weakest Link and Strictly Come Dancing, taking us through to 5:10pm, when you can take a trip through space and time for the Doctor Who Christmas Special.

Then, it’s the first headline act of the evening as Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl hits the small screen, lasting for 75 mins. In an unusual move, the BBC will this year be broadcasting the EastEnders Christmas special in two parts, with part one airing straight after Wallace & Gromit, and lasting half an hour.

This is followed by Call The Midwife at 7:55pm, before the much-anticipated final ever episode of Gavin & Stacey, which will last a bumper hour and a half, from 9pm to 10:30pm.

After this, it’s part two of EastEnders, and the day is then rounded off by the Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas Special at 11pm.

The full schedule for December 25th is as follows:

  • 06:00 BBC Breakfast
  • 09:00 Trolls: Holiday In Harmony (Film)
  • 09:20 Superworm
  • 10:15 Christmas Morning Service
  • 11:20 Toy Story 3
  • 12:55 Minions: The Rise Of Gru
  • 14:30 Tiddler
  • 15:00 The King
  • 15:10 The Weakest Link
  • 15:55 Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special
  • 17:10 Doctor Who Christmas Special
  • 18:10 Wallace & Gromit
  • 19:25 EastEnders (Part 1)
  • 19:55 Call The Midwife Christmas Special
  • 21:00 Gavin & Stacey: The Finale
  • 22:30 EastEnders (Part 2)
  • 23:00 Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas Special

Make a note of it, and maybe work out which things you want to save for Boxing Day, when you might be able to pay a bit more attention.
