The news that there’s going to be fewer episodes in the upcoming season of Game of Thrones has left some fans feeling gloomier than Jon Snow after a 10-hour stint at the top of The Wall.
Truth be told, we couldn’t care how many episodes of the world’s best show are left, once they manage to maintain the superb standard that they’ve set over the course of six seasons.
Well, given that Season 6 ended in the most epic way possible – we’ll never forget that double-whammy of ‘Battle of the Bastards’ and ‘The Winds of Winter – we’re delighted to see that Benioff and Weiss won’t be skimping on the running time in Season 7 – in fact, they’re extending it.
For those that are curious, the longest episode in Game of Thrones history is ‘The Winds of Winter’ which clocks in at 68 minutes. Well, the last two episodes of Season 7 are going to absolutely eviscerate that record.
Why does this matter? Game of Thrones fans will know that the penultimate and final episodes of each season always tend to deliver a punch.
Who can forget the events that unfolded in Baelor, Blackwater, The Rains of Castamere The Watchers on the Wall, The Dance of Dragons and Battle of the Bastards? Truth be told, they provided some of the greatest TV in recent memory.
With news that the new season will feature the biggest battle in the show’s history, we’re already salivating more than Ramsay Bolton’s dogs at the prospect of seeing 81 minutes of absolute carnage and dragon fire.
