The JOE Friday Pub Quiz: Week 152

Kyle Picknell

Hello and welcome to yet another edition of the world-famous JOE Friday Pub Quiz

The Cambridge English dictionary defines a pub quiz as “a quiz (= a competition in which you answer questions) held in a pub between teams of players”. Whilst not quite being as established an authority on the English language as I would like, I define it as something pretty similar.

You’re probably wondering, at this point, why I am taking the intro to a pub quiz to explain what a pub quiz is. If you’re here, actively choosing to participate in a pub quiz, then you probably know what one is. Or, at the very least, have a vague sort of idea. So it’s a good question. A valid query. An acceptable dispute.

The truth is… the truth is that every week we have to fill a couple of hundred of words that nobody reads because they just skip straight to the quiz and I, for one, am sick of it. Doing this week in, week out has practically killed Rich Cooper. Have you spoken to him lately? He’s lost his mind. He doesn’t use actual words anymore, he just coos like a pigeon because these 150-odd pub quiz intros have irreversibly consumed his brain.

So consider this a protest of sorts. Enjoy your quiz. I hope you can sleep at night knowing what it has done to what was once the finest pub quiz intro writer the world has ever seen.
