Star Wars have announced that JJ Abrams will direct Episode IX

Makes sense.

That disturbance in the Force didn’t last long as Colin Trevorrow has been replaced by J.J Abrams as the director for Star Wars: Episode IX.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Lucasfilm praised Trevorrow’s talents but added that they had “mutually chosen” to part ways on the project.

“Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon,” the statement read.

Well, much like Han Solo’s return after being encased in carbonite, J.J. Abrams is coming back to that galaxy far, far away.

The director of Super 8 and Mission Impossible III achieved critical and box-office success when he rebooted the saga in 2015 with Star Wars: The Force Awakens and he’ll complete the sequel trilogy as writer and director of Star Wars: Episode IX.

Abrams will co-write the film with Chris Terrio.

While Terrio did write the Oscar-winning Argo, he’s also the man that’s responsible for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Mmm.

Star Wars: Episode IX will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Abrams, Bad Robot, and Lucasfilm.

“With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy/

With Abrams in the directors chair, we’re certain that the franchise is in safe hands.

Now, is it December 15th yet because we’re itching to see The Last Jedi!
