Sir David Jason says he’s still ‘desperately’ looking for work aged 84

'I've got many characters still left to play'

The 84-year-old is best known for his role as Derek Trotter, a.k.a. Del Boy, in the legendary BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses.

Along with his most famous role, the actor has starred as Detective Inspector Jack Frost in A Touch of Frost, Granville in Open All Hours, and Pop Larkin in The Darling Buds of May. He's also voiced iconic children's characters such as Mr. Toad in The Wind in the Willows, the BFG in the 1989 film, and Danger Mouse

Now, the 84-year-old has revealed he is "trying desperately" to be cast in new roles, arguing senior actors like himself have "got a tremendous amount to offer."

Speaking to the Radio Times, he said: "I’m trying desperately to convince producers and directors that I’ve got many characters still left to play.

"Senior actors have got a tremendous amount to offer."

Jason's last TV role came in co-presenting BBC series David & Jay's Touring Toolshed, alongside The Repair Shop star Jay Blades.

In September, Blades was charged with engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour. He denies the charges and is set to stand trial before a Crown Court jury.

Jason confirmed there would be no more editions of his show with Blades, and that he is "open to offers" for new TV projects.

Last month, Jason spoke about how he sometimes felt like Del Boy followed him around like a "ghost", admitting the role "upsets" him slightly because it's the "only thing people remember me for."
