Simon McCoy leaves GB News just six months after channel launch

The presenter is the latest big name to leave the channel

Simon McCoy has announced that he is stepping down from GB News for "personal reasons," a spokesperson for the channel has said.

The former BBC News presenter announced he was joining GB News in March this year. In a statement at the time, the channel described him as "one of Britain's best loved and most charismatic journalists".

McCoy has become the latest person to step down from the channel, which launched in June.

In September, the channel's chairman and lead presenter, Andrew Neil, announced that he was resigning from his position.

The 72-year-old had been on air for just two weeks before announcing that he was taking a break from the channel, before later confirming he had left permanently after becoming a "minority of one" within the management.

McCoy's departure also comes just hours after it was announced that Eamonn Holmes would be joining the channel from ITV in 2022.

He will be presenting alongside Isabel Webster, with current breakfast host Kirsty Gallacher also said she would be "stepping back", after finding a tumour in her ear.

Holmes and Webster will present a breakfast show together starting in the new year.
