It looks like a Get Out sequel could be happening

Paul Moore

The original is nominated for four Oscars.

Since it debuted on our screens in March, Jordan Peele’s horror/social-satire Get Out has become a global behemoth.

Both Empire and the BFI named it as their favourite film of 2017 and with four Oscar nominations to its name, Peele’s one of the most in-demand writer/directors in Hollywood.

Despite the fact that he’s hot property, Peele might not be done with the franchise because he’s tempted to make a follow-up.

During a recent chat with The Hollywood Reporter, the director said that he’s thinking about a sequel. “I can tell you I will definitely, seriously consider it. I love that universe and I feel like there is more story to tell. I don’t know what it is now, but there are some loose ends,” he said.

As for its chances at the Oscars, Get Out received nominations in the following categories; Best Director (Peele), Best Actor (Daniel Kaluuya), Best Original Screenplay (Peele again), and Best Picture. Although the film was made on a $4.5 million budget, it grossed over $250 million and still has a rating of 99% on Rotten Tomatoes.

If you’ve seen Get Out then you might have some questions about how this saga will continue – after all, the ending was a bit of a bloodbath. Well, Peele originally intended for the film to end with Chris being arrested by the police for the murder of the Armitages, reflecting the realities of racism.

Perhaps Peele will further examine race relations in the US with the sequel. Could the heinous Armitage’s just be the tip of the iceberg? We’ll have to wait and see.
