The death of Pablo Escobar marks the end of one chapter in the war on drugs but the Cali Cartel live on.
In fact, Escobar's demise was an opportunity that his enemies seized. At one point, the Cali Cartel were making $22,500 every 30 seconds through the sale of narcotics. That's $23.5 billion a year and it's believed that they controlled 90% of the world’s cocaine market.
What chance does Agent Peña and the DEA have against such a monumental crime syndicate?
Led by four powerful figures, the Cali Cartel operated very differently to Escobar because they preferred to bribe government officials and keep their violent actions out of the headlines.
