Season 3 of Narcos has new footage and it looks incredible

Paul Moore

Narcos fans are going to be very happy.

If you still haven’t caught up with the superb first two seasons of Narcos then consider this to be your spoiler alert warning.

‘El Patron’ is dead, long live ‘El Ajedrecista.’

The death of Pablo Escobar marks the end of one chapter in the war on drugs but the Cali Cartel live on.

In fact, Escobar’s demise was an opportunity that his enemies seized. At one point, the Cali Cartel were making $22,500 every 30 seconds through the sale of narcotics. That’s $23.5 billion a year and it’s believed that they controlled 90% of the world’s cocaine market.

What chance does Agent Peña and the DEA have against such a monumental crime syndicate?

Led by four powerful figures, the Cali Cartel operated very differently to Escobar because they preferred to bribe government officials and keep their violent actions out of the headlines.

Here’s a brief description on the new kingpins in town.

  • Gilberto Rodriguez Orejuela (Damian Alcazar)- leader of Cali Cartel, “boss of bosses”
  • Miguel Rodriguez Orejuela (Francisco Denis)- the brains behind the rise of the of Cali Cartel and Gilberto’s brother
  • Pacho Herrera (Alberto Ammann)- the on-the-low hitman, runs the Mexican connection and international distribution
  • Chepe Santacruz Londono (Pepe Rapazote)–  runs the satellite NYC empire of the Colombian drug network

If that’s not enough to get you pumped for the new season, take a look at what’s in store when Narcos returns to Netflix on September 1st.

As Peña (Pedro Pascal) says, “cut the head off a snake and three more appear but this time, the teeth are sharper.”

Prepare to meet the enemy and this season, they’re not just staying in Colombia.
