Sade releases “Flower of the Universe”, her first song in over seven years

Will Lavin

You know it’s going to be a good day when Sade releases new music.

Asked by Director Ava DuVernay to create an original song for the upcoming Disney movie A Wrinkle In Time, Sade surprisingly agreed. The result? The No I.D. produced “Flower of the Universe”.

Sharing the track at midnight last night via Twitter, DuVernay said: “A late-night treat for all you ‘Flowers of the Universe’. My thanks to No I.D. And thank you to Sade. You are a queen and a visionary and we love you.”

As smooth and as beautiful as expected when it comes to Sade, “Flower of the Universe” is one of those songs that feels more like a moment than a fleeting digital audio imprint only good for a spin or two. There’s depth to it and a sincere repeat value to it that sits well when kicking your feet up after a long day at the office.

While the movie A Wrinkle in Time features a heavyweight cast in Chris Pine, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling, the soundtrack is equally as big time. Set to include original tunes from Sia, Kehlani, DJ Khaled and Demi Lovato, Chloe x Halle (of Grown-ish fame), and FreeStyle Fellowship, the score will be handled by Game of Thrones composer Ramin Djawadi.
