Phillip Schofield ‘approached by BBC show’ after This Morning exit

Phillip schofield approached by Strictly come Dancing

‘Phil has been asked before but this time the offer was more aggressive’

Phillip Schofield has apparently been approached by the BBC to appear on the next series of Strictly Come Dancing, following his departure from This Morning.

The 61-year-old announced his sudden departure from the ITV show over the weekend following weeks of rumours about a breakdown in his relationship with co-host Holly Willoughby.

Although ITV and Schofield both made clear they would continue to work together in the foreseeable future, there have been reports of the presenter perhaps being lured away to another broadcaster.

And a source has now claimed that Phil has been approached by Strictly Come Dancing bosses over appearing as a contestant on the show.

They told The Sun that whilst he has been approached in the past, this time the “offer was more aggressive.”

They continued: “Since he was axed from This Morning, people have been discussing what they could do with him.

“Phil has had approaches from broadcasters like Channel 5 who are keen to discuss possible projects.

“Given he’s currently lying low and trying to work out his next move, it’s unlikely he will put on his dancing shoes but stranger things have happened.

“No one thought he’d ever leave This Morning and look how that ended up.”

They added that the BBC would “love” to have Schofield on the much-loved Saturday night show due to the “publicity it would generate.”

There is as of yet nothing to suggest that the presenter is stepping down from his other roles and hosting duties at ITV, and in his statement on Saturday Schofield said he would see ITV viewers again for the British Soap Awards next month.

This was echoed by ITV managing director Kevin Lygo, who thanked Schofield for his years of work on This Morning, before adding: “We look forward to continuing our relationship with Phillip starting with The British Soap Awards in June and a brand new peak time series to come.”

Phil is also the presenter of ITV’s own dancing show, Dancing on Ice, alongside Willoughby.

It is unclear what his future on the show will be, considering the reports of his fallout with his co-presenter.

The series usually airs at the start of each year.
