People confused after realising what JLS stands for

‘My whole world collapsed when I found out JLS didn’t stand for ‘just love songs”

People have been left bemused after finding out what JLS stands for.

They were one of the stars of X Factor in 2008, finishing as runners-up on the show to Alexandra Burke, and went on to release stone-cold bangers like Everybody in Love, Beat Again and One Shot.

After breaking up in 2013, the band reunited for a huge arena tour this year, and now one of the group, Marvin Humes, is on our screens every night on this year’s series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here.

I bet most of you have no idea what JLS actually stands for though, with people asking that very question on social media.

This wasn’t just a random three letters thought up by Marvin and his bandmates Aston Merrygold, Oritsé Williams and JB Gill.

But we’d be here for a long time until you guessed what the meaning behind the band name is.

Before they christened themselves JLS, they were actually named UFO, which stood for Unique Famous Outrageous.

They decided to change the name to the one we all recognise today – which supposedly stands for Jack the Lad Swing.

Plenty of people were left stunned by this revelation though, with one person simply writing: “f**k off does jls stand for jack the lad swing.”

Another posted: “My whole world collapsed when I found out that JLS didn’t in fact stand for ‘just love songs’ like I thought it did in 2010 xo.”

A third wrote: “Sometimes i just don’t understand how jls chose ‘jack the lad swing’ as their group name, what does it even mean??”

One person did try and explain the logic behind the name choice, writing: “They were originally called UFO – which stood for Unique Famous Outrageous.

“They then named themselves Jack the Lad Swing – which combined the phrase Jack the lad and the urban music of new Jack swing. After this, they shortened the name to JLS.”

It’s an interesting thought process, but it seems like it worked in the end, with JLS having notched up five UK number one singles over the years.

Petition for them to release an actual swing album!
