People have spotted that part of Trump’s inauguration speech came from a famous movie

Coincidence?

Rich Cooper

Barack Obama’s inauguration speech was full of hope. Donald Trump’s inauguration speech was full of shi- no, we’re not going that far.

It is fair to say that President Trump’s speech set a markedly different tone from that of his predecessor, though. Plenty of people don’t like Trump (he is entering office with the lowest approval rating of any president in American history) but no one was expecting him to go pure villain.

So it came as something of a surprise when part of his speech came, presumably accidentally, from one of the biggest villains of recent movie history, Bane. In The Dark Knight Rises, Bane gives a speech outside a prison promising to give power back to the people of Gotham.

Maybe President Trump has seen The Dark Knight Rises. Maybe President Trump looks to Bane for inspiration. We don’t know. What we do know is that the same eight words were uttered by both men. Check it:

“And we give it back to you, the people.” Dang. To be fair, in Batman the billionaire is the good guy, but Bane had access to a large nuclear device, and now Trump does too. What does this tell us?

That we should all go and watch Batman and never leave the house again.
