Pat Sharp’s Fun House has nothing on the JägerHaus at All Points East

All Points East Festival is in full flow

It’s the brand new 10 day event in East London’s Victoria Park encompassing a three day music festival, community focused programme of midweek entertainment and three huge APE Presents headline shows.

Beginning on Friday this past Bank Holiday weekend, it was headlined by the likes of LCD Soundsystem, The xx and Bjork. Next weekend will see headlining duties taken over by Catfish and the Bottlemen, The National and Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds.

But while there’s the allure to head straight to one of the main stages, making a detour only for food and drink at one of the many vendors, there’s another place within the gates of Victoria Park that you absolutely need to make sure you visit: JägerHaus.

What is JägerHaus?

From the outside it looks like an abandoned compound from an episode of The Walking Dead, but once inside you’re exposed to an experience you won’t forget in a hurry. If it was in fact a shelter to keep out flesh eating zombies then of course you wouldn’t forget that experience either but this is different, this is unique, especially in a festival setting.

Whether it’s walking through a tunnel full of winter coats hanging from the ceiling, being hit in the head by a sponge basketball thrown at a gold hoop positioned above the main stage, or a neon lit selfie room that feels like something straight out of Pat Sharp’s Fun House, the layout of JägerHaus is the gift that keeps on giving because as the day goes on you find yourself stumbling into new rooms and discovering new quirks that you had no idea were there.

If you’re lucky enough to get yourself a VIP wristband (something you can get your hands on with a cheeky Whatsapp message) then you can head upstairs to the compound’s loft where awaiting you is yet more randomness and yet more fun.

The moment I walked into the loft I was instantly drawn to the shuffleboard tucked away in the corner by the bannister that overlooked the entire compound. Covered in sawdust it proved to be quite the hotspot – I had to queue just to use it. Right next to it a fussball table, which garnered just as much attention.

The loft’s decor is traditional, intimate, like a private library in a British home, the type that Sherlock Holmes might have owned. The difference here being that aside from the loud music bellowing out of the compound’s speaker system curated by some of the country’s newest talent, it had a fully stocked Jägermeister bar with a menu that included signature drinks such as the ice cold shot and more adventurous cocktails like the refreshing Root56 which combines Jägermeister with Ginger Beer, cucumber and a slice of lime.

Oh, and how can I forget to mention the extraordinarily talented bar staff? One guy even balanced a bottle of Jäger on his head pouring the contents into a cocktail shaker as if it was as natural as using his hands.

What about the music lineup?

As if the above wasn’t already enough to sink your teeth into there’s the live lineup to think about also. Giving up and coming talent the opportunity to flex their musical skills, the JägerHaus stage on Saturday played host to names like Rival, Bearcubs and the animated Jelani Blackman.

Stand outs on the day included Harvey Causon, Poté, who definitely turned heads with his brand of urban-infused house, and a compound-shaking DJ set from Emerald, whose colourful pallet of sounds and remixes made for one hell of a moment.

I also can’t forget to shout out Tasty Lopez who held it down on the ones and twos all day. Aside from being a monster on the turntables, a big Rick James fan, and in possession of an addictive personality, she’s also pretty handy with a fan.

Other acts from the weekend included Vessels, Mina Rose, Joel Culpepper, Reeps One and Nik Void and festival-goers were also treated to DJ sets from Hot Chip and Friendly Fires. This coming weekend’s lineup will feature performances from The Big Moon Pumarosa, Marika Hackman, Black Foxxes, Warpaint, Lady Bird and many more.

Want to get into the JägerHaus VIP loft?

Put it this way, it would be so easy to pop into the JägerHaus for a quick drink and end up staying there for the entire day. And with so much to do and so much great music to enjoy we wouldn’t blame you.

If you’re attending the final weekend of All Points East Festival, APE Presents (June 1st-3rd), and fancy a free drink and a chance to party in the VIP loft area with the shuffleboard and fussball table all you have to do is Whatsapp Jägermeister’s Brand Ambassador Flo on 07521 340538 and tell him why you deserve to be let in (be as creative as you can).

Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
