The legendary director, Eli Roth, is back
The director of Hostel and Death Wish, Eli Roth, is back with a new film and it’s debuted with a massive 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film, Thanksgiving, is a slasher based on a screenplay by Jeff Rendell starring People Magazine’s Sexiest Man, Patrick Dempsey, Addison Rae, and Milo Manheim.
The film begins when a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy as a mysterious serial killer, known as John Carver, emerges from the shadows with the intention of creating a Thanksgiving carving board out of the town’s people.
While it may sound like your run-of-the-mill Slasher/Horror flick, the reviews are massively positive.
Rotten Tomatoes’ consensus says of the film: “[It] combines belly-busting humor with delightfully over-the-top gore, Thanksgiving is a feast for grindhouse fans.”
Owen Gleiberman wrote for Variety: “Thanksgiving follows the rules of the slasher genre, but it’s got a more charged and entertainingly hyperbolic atmosphere than these movies used to have.”
Frank Scheck also gave the film a positive review, writing: “There are times you can feel Thanksgiving straining too mightily for a cult status it’s not likely to achieve. But it seems a safe bet the film will be trotted out like a turkey on cable channels and streaming services for many Thanksgivings to come.”
It’s definitely one to keep an eye out for.
