We probably don't need to tell you that film adaptations of video games don't have the best track record, but even so, we're still pretty intrigued by Assassin's Creed's cinematic bow.
It's all gone a bit quiet since the studio released that video of a stuntman performing the series' trademark "Leap of Faith" (although this daredevil had a whopping great crash mat to land on, rather than a hay bale), but a new trailer that landed today is chock-full of punchy, stabby action that has put the movie right back on our radar.

Michael Fassbender is Callum Lynch, a seemingly violent criminal locked up in a high-security prison. But before long he finds himself unwillingly in the company of a shady corporation called Abstergo Industries (sound familiar?).
Lynch finds out that his bloodline can be traced back 500 years to the Assassin's Creed. By entering a device called the Animus he's able to tap into the memories of Aguilar de Nerha, his Spanish assassin ancestor from the 15th century.
All he has to do then is save the world. You know the drill.
We'd expect the film to divert slightly from its source material, but it looks like it's going to stay fairly faithful to the game's bonkers storyline.
Assassin's Creed hits UK cinemas January 1st.
