Netflix’s latest horror-comedy looks like an absolute riot

Paul Moore

The director has already made a cult-classic.

Tremors, Dog Soldiers, Cabin in the Woods, Shaun of the Dead. They’re all superb horror-comedies, but there’s another title that we would happily add to this list and it’s Tucker and Dale vs Evil.

If you haven’t seen Eli Craig’s feature debut then we urge you to do so because not only is it clever, funny and gory, but it also managed to subvert and toy with the stereotypes that exist within the horror genre.

In the film, two affable hillbillies named Tucker and Dale are on vacation at their mountain cabin. The two men are just trying to relax but they keep on getting mistaken for murderers by a group of preppy and idiotic college students.

Trust us, the death sequences are great and there are some absolutely hilarious scenes like this one below.

Since this release, Craig has filmed the pilot for the Zombieland TV show but Amazon have passed on that one. Despite this setback, we’re delighted to say that the director is back and his new film should appeal to anyone who loves classic horror films like The Omen, Poltergeist and Rosemary’s Baby.

In Little Evil, Gary (Adam Scott from Step Brothers, Parks and Recreation) has just married Samantha (Evangeline Lilly from Lost, Ant Man) , the woman of his dreams.

There’s one small problem, his stepson is the antichrist.

In the trailer, we’re told that “all kids are dicks. But this is a different level. He’s like at the top of the dick chain.”

If you love horror and comedy, then this should definitely appeal to you. After seeing the trailer, it’s clear that the director knows the conventions, rules and stereotypes of horror inside-out. Parodying them is where all the fun comes from.

Little Evil is available on Netflix from September 1st.
