Michelle Keegan has put on a stone in weight and says she doesn’t want to be ‘bony’

She looks in great shape

You wouldn’t mess with her.

In this day and age, women (and indeed men) are continually body-shamed and castigated for the way they look. There’s a huge pressure on everyone to look perfect (or some contorted image of ‘perfect’), and sadly a lot of dangerous focus is on losing as much weight as possible, rather than getting fit and healthy.

It leads to some depressing facts and figures. An estimated 1.6 million people in the UK are affected by an eating disorder of some kind, with up to 18 new cases of bulimia per 100,000 population per year. Perhaps most startlingly, 1 in 100 women aged between 15 and 30, are affected by anorexia.

So it’s great when a famous celebrity talks up the virtues of putting on weight, in the form of muscle, and how that can make them feel happier about the way they look and feel.

Former Coronation Street star and celebrated actress Michelle Keegan has been hitting the gym in a big way and bulking up her small frame – and she’s clearly happy with the results.

Late night sesh! ?it! ????

Speaking to Women’s Health, Keegan explains that she has focused on the weights room, rather than focus on cardio, which would make her more “scrawny”. It has resulted in her gaining a stone in weight – and all for the better:

“I’ve put on a stone and feel it everywhere. I think I needed to put on a bit of weight. I was a bit bony.’

“I do weights because that’s what works for me and my body. If I do a lot of cardio, I tend to lose a lot of weight. So for me to keep the weight on and my muscle bulk, I need to do quite a lot of weights.”
