The Star Wars actor said he would be 'very surprised' if it happened.
John Boyega has addressed rumours he is in the running to take over from Daniel Craig as James Bond by saying he does not believe there will ever be a black Bond.
The Star Wars actor made the comments while appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast to promote his new bank robbing thriller Breaking.
While speaking about his current preference for acting in smaller-scale projects as opposed to franchises, host Josh Horowitz asked Boyega about the possibility of him playing 007.
"I’m sorry but I’m black. I don’t know how. When you’re black, I don’t know how that goes," he replied laughing.
Following up, the host asked if Boyega thought producers would not pick a black actor to play Bond.
He replied: "Look man, you as a white man are living in a society where you grew up and were born as a white man. That’s normal to you.
"Even the mention of a black Bond to me is like 'Oh, okay.' I don’t necessarily believe that but if that’s what they’re doing then, okay, that's very surprising to me.
"As an actor, you just kind of stay out of that conversation. If it’s for you then maybe.
"But if it's not then you enjoy it in a movie theatre like everyone else."
Craig retired from playing Bond after his fifth outing as the character in 2021's No Time to Die.
Every iteration of the famous spy character to date has been played by a white actor, though Boyega and other black actors like Idris Elba and Regé-Jean Page have been suggested as potential replacements.
