James Cameron says a release of Aliens 3-D could happen soon

Paul Moore

“Let’s rooooooooooock!”

If you’re ever asked to name a sequel that’s better than the original, it’s very likely that T-2 is your answer. Good news for any fans of Terminator 2: Judgment Day because Arnie’s war against Cyberdyne Systems and the T-1000 is returning to cinemas with a fancy 3-D print.

Another strong candidate for a sequel that topped the original is James Cameron’s stonewall classic Aliens. Before you start throwing Xenomorph blood at us and screaming ‘Game over, man! Game over!,’ just know this, we’re massive fans of Ridley Scott’s iconic masterpiece Alien, but Cameron took that franchise and upped the screams, terror and action.

Truth be told, that epic final scene between Ripley and the Queen hasn’t aged a day. This being said, that finale pales in comparison to the ‘air duct’ scene when Vasquez meets her maker. How tense was that?!?!

We can still hear the ‘bleeps’ from the tracker and “you always were an asshole, Gorman” is still one of the finest final lines in film history and that’s just the beginning.

“They mostly come out at night, mostly,” assholes and elbows” and the iconic “get away from her, you bitch” are all peppered throughout a pure adrenaline rush of a film.

James Cameron is a busy man with the sequels to Avatar and a reinvention of the Terminator saga on his hands, but he’s also keen to re-release Aliens in 3D.

Speaking during a live Facebook Q&A to promote Terminator 2: 3D, he said: “We haven’t proven the business case yet so ask me again in a couple of weeks if T2 Judgement Day in 3D does well. I think the next title on my list, in terms of fan enthusiasm would probably have to be Aliens before I got to the other titles that you mentioned,” said Cameron, when asked if other films were going to be heading into a new dimension. “Aliens seems to really hold up in people’s minds and that would probably be my next one. But we’ve got to prove the business case here so people have to show up. So show up!”

There you have it Alien fans. If the release of T2-3D does good business, we might be getting to see Ripley, Hicks, Newt and the Xenomorph Queen back on the big screen.

How cool would that be?
