Speaking about the scene with EW, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau said“Even though Daenerys is the hero and the Lannisters are the villains, being burned alive is not great. It’s a terrifying thing when this monster flamethrower comes along and incinerates thousands and thousands of men who are just doing their job. Jaime is such an idiot that he thinks for a second, ‘If I can do this, I can win the whole thing in a Hail Mary."
In the script, the direction said that "one of our main characters is about to die…" but Coster-Waldau hasn't confirmed the fate of his character. This being said, he did provide a snippet of information regarding his relationship with Cersei.
“It’s not going to end well for Jaime Lannister, I can’t imagine," he said. We can't imagine that Jaime would meet his maker without resolving his issues with Cersei.
The director of the episode, Matt Shakman, also offered his views to EW on that superb cliffhanger.
"When he charges it's meant to be the most beautiful death you’ve ever seen. He's charging through the ash and, in a way, tilting at windmills like Don Quixote. Then he’s obviously saved at the last second — from the dragon fire at least."
If we had to guess, we think that this small snippet of footage from the next trailer could be very telling. Take a look at that very brief movement on the scorched battlefield. Jaime and Bronn?
This being said, a one-handed man in full armor that's sinking to the bottom of a deep river isn't exactly a good situation.
Thank god then that Bronn is nearby and he's desperate to get the castle that he was promised.
As we know, a Lannister always pays his debts. We expect Jaime to stick around.Explore more on these topics:
