Here are the most glaring snubs from the Oscar nominations

Paul Moore

Some film fans aren’t happy.

On March 4th, a load of famous people are going to wear their best clothes and congratulate each other on their work. While some people will get to actually say their speech, others will get to use their gracious losers face.

With The Shape of Water, Get Out, The Post,  Dunkirk and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri leading the nominations, there’s plenty of competition this year but as is the norm, there can only be one winner.

While some people might be comfortable telling the brazen lie that ‘it’s just an honour just to be nominated’ – come on, everyone wants to win – there’s always some people that can’t even tell that fib.

As always, here’s some of the biggest snubs from recent Oscar nominations.

We’re certain all of their fame, fortune, and talent will help them get over it.

Martin McDonagh

Given the fact that he just won the Golden Globe, we genuinely didn’t see this one coming. We’re massive fans of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and despite its positive reviews, we were curious if the Academy would go for a film that edgy and dark. They did with it getting seven nominations including Best Picture, Screenplay and nods for Frances McDormand, Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson.

No director though? Much like Ben Affleck on Argo, the Academy has overlooked him for some reason. Harsh.

James Franco

Another Golden Globes winner that didn’t get an Oscar nod. His performance as Tommy Wiseau in The Disaster Artist was terrific but the recent accusations of sexual misconduct may have tarnished his chances.

Winning a Golden Globe is usually a good indicator that an Oscar nomination is coming, but Franco’s name won’t be read out this year.

Five quid for the person that can instantly name the film that Denzel Washington was nominated for.

It’s Roman J. Israel, Esq.

The Florida Project and The Big Sick

Two indie films that were original, heart warming and beloved by critics. Granted, they both got nominations in the Best Supporting Actor and Screenplay categories, but they’re infinitely better films than Call Me By Your Name and Darkest Hour.

You could also make a case that Logan deserved a nod in the Best Picture category although nobody really thought it would.

Wonder Woman? Nah, not for me.

The guys from The Post

Meryl Streep got some love and The Post picked up a Best Picture nod but Hanks and Spielberg didn’t. We’re sure they don’t mind, they’ve got like 173 Oscars between them. Actually, it’s just five.

Holly Hunter

We’re massive fans of The Big Sick and her performance as the blunt and very protective mother was great. Ah well…

Hans Zimmer

The score for Blade Runner 2 was majestic. His work for Dunkirk was acknowledged but there’s nothing for his soundtrack on Denis Villeneuve’s film.

Armie Hammer or Michael Stuhlberg

Timothée Chalamet was nominated, his co-stars in Call Me By Your Name weren’t. Awkward.

John Wick 2

It should have been nominated for every single Oscar going.
