‘You can tell something happened behind the scenes with The Witcher’

Fans think Henry Cavill looked “uncomfortable” during an interview ahead of announcing he was quitting The Witcher with the actor clearly showing mixed-emotions as he chatted about the show.

Although The Witcher has been officially confirmed for Season 4, it comes with the news that Cavill, who played Geralt of Rivia in two seasons of the hit Netflix hit, amassing an army of fans along the way, won’t be continuing.

The Man of Steel is being replaced by The Hunger Games’ Liam Hemsworth.

Fans were not happy with the news. They even started a petition for the show to ‘keep Cavil and fire the writers’. As of midday Friday, almost 67,000 had signed it.

The Witcher saga is a live action series based on the novel and video game of the same name.

“Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, The Witcher. is an epic tale of fate and family,” the official synopsis reads.

“The story of the intertwined destinies of three individuals in the vast world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil is not easily identified.”

Cavill dropped the bombshell this week that he was calling it a day as Geralt, a bittersweet announcement as he then confirmed he was returning as Superman.

The actor’s fans are convinced the news was playing on his mind in the days leading up to the announcement. He clearly looks a little torn during the below interview on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast when he discusses the show around 23-minutes in.

Cavill was asked about his approach to acting projects and said: “It’s just about belief. If you believe what you’re doing is the right thing then you’ll be able to keep on doing it.

“It’s also important to know that if you realise you’re doing the wrong thing, that’s when you stop doing the wrong thing.

“You don’t just keep going just because, because that leads down a dark path.”

Following his announcement, fans say they believe he looked “uncomfortable” giving his answer and that it seems as though he may have been thinking about his situation on The Witcher at the time.

One person said: “You can tell something happened behind the scenes with The Witcher.”

Another commented: “He clearly isn’t comfortable lying on camera. He could have said nothing but he had to tell the truth.”

“Huge respect for him for believing in the origin of The Witcher,” put a third. “And not just be standing and looking at them going completely away from the origin.”

While someone else chimed in: “They failed him. He gave everything there.”

Another wrote on YouTube: “I feel that from 45:22 Henry might be having the Witcher in mind. He did the right thing quitting the Witcher. The showrunner turned out to be a very incompetent person, making one mistake after another, pushing her own agenda. I don’t really understand how comes that Netflix made her a person in charge since she clearly had said she is even not into the fantasy genre? And the writers – shame on you. The only good thing is that Henry’s Witcher won hearts of many new fans.”

Other viewers couldn’t help but focus on the positive news about him returning as Superman.

One wrote: “The news of Cavill back as Superman is absolutely perfect timing. What I absolutely love is not only does he look the part of the character but as a person Cavill is just a good guy plain and simple – he embodies so much of the Superman character in himself. But not only that he loves playing Superman – you can tell it means so much to him.”

Rumours have been doing the rounds that Cavill fell out with the show’s writers over the direction in which they wanted to take the series, with him wanting to stay true to the books.”

Cavill had previously said of The Witcher: “I’m a huge fan of the books and staying loyal to them, and it’s about making sure that story happens without too much in the way of diversions or side things going on to muddy the waters.”

Former series writer Beau DeMayo also claimed some of the writers did not even like the source material.

As reported by The Direct, he said during an Instagram Q&A: “I’ve been on show – namely Witcher – where some of the writers were not or actively disliked the books and games (even actively mocking the source material).”
