When the Grammy-winner went downstairs, Evan seized his opportunity
Eminem’s future son-in-law has revealed how he managed to secure the rapper’s blessing before popping the question to Hailie Jade Scott Mathers.
Evan McClintock and his long-time girlfriend, Hailie, announced their engagement earlier this month.

Before getting down on a bended knee, Evan had to choose the right words to convince her dad, who has pocketed a casual 15 Grammys for his music.
“Over the holidays, I was looking for an opportunity not to make it too obvious,” Evan said during the latest episode of Hailie’s podcast, Just a Little Shady.
Thankfully for Evan, he didn’t have to rap-battle Eminem to win him over. His future father-in-law was all for it.
Speaking on the podcast, Evan explained: “I saw your dad go downstairs, and I’m like, ‘I gotta do it right now, or I’m not doing it today, and I’m gonna have to schedule another time.
“So I just followed him downstairs, and, thankfully, he was just down there getting your cake and made it happen.”
While Evan ceased the day, his proposal plans dated back to the Thanksgiving holidays. He found the over-cut diamond he planned to slide onto Hailie’s finger on Boxing Day, the day after he secured Eminem’s blessing.
Hailie said: “The day after my birthday, you got it? That’s crazy.”
The podcast chat was the first time Hailie had heard what lengths her future husband had gone to to make the proposal happen.
Hailie’s sister, Alaina Marie Scott, helped Evan choose the ring.
“It’s funny, so your sister really helped me out. She basically told me what for sure not to get,” Evan said as his fiancée laughed, adding: “That’s all I told her, so it makes sense.”
The couple started dating in 2016 when they were both attending Michigan State University.
