Gremlins 3 is a step closer and it’s set to be really ‘twisted and dark’

Paul Moore

The return of Gizmo.

It might be 33 years since their big screen debut, but we all remember the three rules.

(1) no bright light, (2) don’t get them wet, and (3) never feed them after midnight.

Granted, we’re delighted that Billy (Zach Galligan) didn’t follow the instructions when taking care of his Mogwai, Gizmo, because if he did, audiences wouldn’t be treated to the manic and macabre world of Gremlins and its brilliant sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch.

Despite Gizmo’s talents, this gremlin will always be our favourite one. Who doesn’t love a gremlin with a posh accent that fires a gun when he’s pissed off?

Well, if you’re a Gremlins fan then you’ll be pleased to know that the script for the third adventure is complete and the plot stems stems from one question, if all the gremlins come from getting Gizmo wet and feeding his Mogwai offspring after midnight, should Gizmo be eliminated?

Chris Columbus  – the famous screenwriter and director, not the explorer – has said that the script “is as twisted and dark as anything, so we’ll see”.

Rumours regarding Gremlins 3 have circulated for years but Columbus said that any new film was always halted due to“ a budgetary conversation when we’re going to shoot it. I wanted to go back to the really twisted sensibility of the first movie. I found that was a very easy place for me to fall back into and start writing again so hopefully we’ll see that movie soon.”

Do you remember the first film? They had gremlins being killed in kitchen blender, microwave and an old lady flying out the window after her stair lift was hijacked. It was really, really dark. We’re excited!

For gremlin purists, we#re also told that any new film will have “minimal CGI” also.

Any excuse to hear this this theme song is always welcome.
