These two Game Of Thrones miniseries are essential viewing for fans

This should help ease the pain of missing GOT a little bit...

Superb backstory that will will keep you happy until Series 8.

Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until Season 8 of Game of Thrones is here. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children.

Ok, that’s a bit extreme but there’s no denying that we’re all feeling the effects of not having any new Game of Thrones episodes to binge on.

If these months of waiting are enough to convince you to join the Night’s Watch, fear not.

HBO have launched a new miniseries that will help expand on the mythology, stories and history that George R.R. Martin has created in his Song if Ice and Fire series.

While you’re waiting for any new episodes, you could read the superb books, but if you prefer something that’s more akin to watching the show, these featurettes are just the ting.

The good folks at Game Of Thrones have put together a 45-minute animated story, detailing the thousands of years of history that made and shaped Westeros as we know and love it today.

Narrated by Harry Lloyd (aka Viserys Targaryen), the full film will be packaged with the Blu-Ray/DVD box-set of the seventh season of Game Of Thrones, but you can check out the four-and-a-half minute first chapter – “Valyria’s Last Scion: House Targaryen” – in the clip below.

In case you’re new to the  world of Game of Thrones bonus DVD features, there’s already a stunning series that depicts plenty of the events that we’ve seen referenced in the show.

For example, here’s  one about the Children of the Forest vs. The First Men.

If you’re itching to see even more, you can find them here. We highly recommend them.

Here are the episodes that featured in the Season 6 extras.
