As Davos said to Melisandre:" I loved that girl, like she was my own. She was good, she was kind, and you killed her!" Well, if you're still not over that scene, this heartbreaking Easter egg won't make things any easier. As you may remember, Princess Shireen was the person that taught The Onion Knight how to read, and the very first word that Davos learned to say was Aegon - we later discover that this is Jon Snow's true name. Given the fact that Davos is now Jon Snow's right-hand man, there's something morbidly poetic about this scene.
In an interview with Huffington Post, Liam Cunningham was asked about this particular foreshadowing and he confirmed that it was intentional by the creators.
"Yeah, they’re very good at that sort of thing. David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] plant little Easter eggs there if you want to see them" said Cunningham.
You have to love Game of Thrones.
They've somehow managed to make an incredibly depressing scene even more depressing!
