House of Dragon is set for a UK release in August
Game of Thrones fans have finally been given a sneak peek at the events before the blockbuster series in a teaser for the prequel, House of Dragon.
The series, set to be released later this year, tells the story of House Targaryen 200 years before the stories that played out in Game of Thrones.
HBO released a teaser for the new series late Thursday afternoon.
It stars Paddy Considine as King Viserys I, Emmy D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenrya, Viserys’ first child, and Doctor Who star Matt Smith as Prince Daemon, Viserys’ younger brother.
Other cast members include Rhys Ifans as Ser Otto Hightower, Olivia Cooke as Otto’s daughter Lady Alicent Hightower, Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Cole, Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon, Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon and Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria.
While the ending of Game of Thrones disappointed and divided fans and the cast alike, House of Dragon looks set to reignite interest in the series, with an insider revealing the new show has cost more per episode than the final series.
The first ten episodes of House of the Dragon cost creators under $20 million per episode, Variety reported, compared to $15m per episode for the final series of Game of Thrones and $6m per episode in series one.
House of the Dragon gained approval from Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin after the series wrapped filming. In a blog post in February, he said he had seen “rough cuts” and was “loving them”.
House of the Dragon is slated for release on 21 August, 2022 on HBO Max in the US, and 22 August, 2022 on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
