In the history of Game of Thrones, there are a few universal facts that will always hold true.
Littlefinger is constantly scheming, Cersei's strength and cruelty will continue to amaze and Jon Snow will never run away from a fight. Ever.
That's why we all love Jon so much. His status as Ned Stark's bastard has meant that Jon was required to fight for everything but his nobility, honour and strength shines through with every challenge that he's faced.
At Castle Black, he stood up to bullies, took on a wight, journeyed beyond the Wall and ultimately defended the Wall during its most perilous hour. This being said, he also had the vision, intelligence and empathy to make peace with the wildlings - an different act of strength that ultimately cost him his life.
Since returning from the dead, his courage and leadership was instrumental in the Battle of the Bastards . Who else would charge into no man's land and be prepared to take on an entire army on their own?
Jon refuses to give up, he'll never surrender and he'll fight until his very last breath to protect the North. That's why he's a king.
In the show, we've seen Jon kill Thenns, wights, White Walkers, Bolton soldiers, mutinous Night's Watch members and countless other men, but that battle beyond the Wall was like nothing else we've seen.
With the army of the dead surrounding his men, it appeared that Daenerys' late arrival was about to swing the battle in Jon's favour.
As Tormund, Jorah, The Hound, Beric and co all desperately climbed onto the back of Drogon and prepared to flee, that fatal spear of ice shattered Viserion's skin and broke Dany's heart.
The Night King now has an ice dragon and in the aftermath of this dramatic event, plenty of people were wondering why Jon didn't join his allies on the dragon.
In fact, some people have claimed that Jon was partly responsible for Viserion's 'death' because he was so slow to climb Drogon's scales.
During the Inside the Episode segment, creator David Benioff spoke about Jon's motivations during that scene.
"You definitely get the sense that Jon has become quite important for her (Daenerys) in that pretty short amount of time. He sees that they're all going to die if the dragon doesn't take off. The rational decision at that point is 'you guys go to safety and I'll try to keep them off you as long as I can.' He's the guy that jumps on the grenade to save the rest of the platoon, that's always been Jon," he said.
Viserion may be lost to the Night King, but thank the Gods - both old and new - that Jon Snow is still breathing.
When it comes to The Great War, we'll take 'The White Wolf' over an ice dragon.
