The Only Fools and Horses star is to play a ‘boozy and larger than life’ Brit
British actor Nicholas Lyndhurst has been cast alongside Kelsey Grammer in the Frasier reboot, reports suggest.
According to Variety, the Only Fools and Horses star will play a key role in Frasier’s past as an”old college buddy” in the reboot of the hit 1990s sitcom.
Lyndhurst, 61, worked with Grammer at the English National Opera at the London Coliseum for the Man of La Mancha in 2019.
In the months since Paramount+ greenlit the new series Frasier, fans have wondered if the cast will look the same as it did 30 years ago and what the plot will be.
The official logline reveals only that, “Frasier is off to a different city with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge, and an old dream or two to finally fulfill. Frasier has re-entered the building!”
Variety said Lyndhurst is the first cast member announced to join the new iteration of the beloved sitcom and will play, Alan Cornwall, described as “Frasier’s old college buddy turned university professor. British, boozy and larger than life, Alan has an intellect on par with Frasier’s—if only he ever felt like using it. Alan’s mischievous streak might be just what Frasier could use to shake up his routine, while Frasier’s thoughtful guidance might help Alan find some of the direction he’s been missing in his own life.”
As well as Only Fools and Horses, Lyndhurst is also known for, Goodnight Sweetheart, Butterflies, tThe Two of Us, The Piglet Files, and, After You’ve Gone.
The Frasier revival was originally announced in February 2021, though Grammer had been trying to get a new version of the show off the ground for some time.
Grammer, who executive produces in addition to starring, played the role of Dr. Frasier Crane in three different television series – Cheers, Wings and Frasier – tying the record for longest-running television character, Variety noted.
Frasier remains one of the most successful sitcoms of all time. The show won 37 Emmy Awards over its 11 seasons and 264 episodes on NBC.
