They’re all highly recommended.
With the weekend fast approaching, it’s very likely that you’ll be making your plans for the coming days. If you fancy a night on the couch, here are some titles on Netflix that we highly recommend.
This week, we’ve opted for a mix of the relatively new and some unseen gems.
The Thin Blue Line
Rotten Tomatoes rating: 100%
Plot: The fascinating, controversial and true story of the arrest and conviction of Randall Adams for the murder of a Dallas policeman in 1976. Billed as “the first movie mystery to actually solve a murder,” the film is credited with overturning the conviction of Randall Dale Adams for the murder of Dallas police officer Robert Wood, a crime for which Adams was sentenced to death. With its use of expressionistic reenactments, interview material and music by Philip Glass, it pioneered a new kind of non-fiction filmmaking.
The critics said: “One of the most cinematic of documentaries. However, it never forgets for a moment its duty to anger, provoke, and probe” – BBC
Watch it if you’re in the mood for: An old school documentary that inspired the new generation.

Plot: Oskar is a young boy who can’t seem to shake off the local bullies, but all of that begins to change when a new neighbor moves in next door. After striking up an innocent friendship with his eccentric next-door neighbor, Oskar realizes that his newfound friend has a grizzle secret.
The critics said: “a stunningly poetic work that will appeal not just to the niche market of horror fans, but to any viewer discerning enough to appreciate the beauty of melancholy” – FilmFour
Watch it if you’re in the mood for: A film that’s as haunting as it is beautiful. Yes it has been on Netflix for awhile now, but it’s so good.

Cartel Land
Rotten tomatoes rating: 89%
Plot: A riveting, on-the-ground look at the journeys of two modern-day vigilante groups and their shared enemy – the murderous Mexican drug cartels.
