First trailer for long-delayed ‘The Flash’ movie debuted and it teases Michael Keaton’s return as Batman

Steve Hopkins

‘This movie looks insane. After 35 years, Michael Keaton’s still got it’

The first trailer for “The Flash” debuted ahead of Super Bowl LVII on Sunday, and fans are loving Michael Keaton’s return as Batman.

Both Keaton and Ben Affleck reprise their roles as their respective Batmen in the film. Troubled actor Ezra Miller continues as Barry Allen/ The Flash. Miller, 30, last appeared as the character in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and was in and out of the headlines last year over assault and abuse allegations. Sasha Calle will star as Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl.

One fan wrote: “Chills seeing Keaton and Affleck both as Batman in one movie.”

Another added: “Didn’t expect Bat Keaton to be so buff, agile and brutal. I love it.”

A third wrote: “This movie looks insane. After 35 years, Michael Keaton’s still got it.”

The three-minute trailer is the first new footage from the film that has been released in over a year. It also marks the first major showcase of a Warner Bros. movie at the Super Bowl in 17 years.

The movie will act as a reset for James Gunn’s forthcoming slate of DC films.

The comic book flick — which is finally set for release in June — sees Allen travel back in time to save his mother from murder, which in turn interrupts his own timeline with unintended repercussions.

Warner Bros’ official synopsis reads: “Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past.

“But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to.

“That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for.

“Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?”

The latest poster for the film was released earlier this week, teasing the return of Keaton’s Batman.

The movie also stars Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú, Kiersey Clemons, and Antje Traule.

Earlier this month, Miller pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor unlawful trespass in a Vermont burglary case.

In August, Miller provided to Variety, saying they would seek treatment for “complex mental health issues.”

“Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment.

“I want to apologise to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behaviour. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.”
