She earned $25 million, compared to DiCaprio’s $30 million
Jennifer Lawrence has spoken out about earning less than
Leonardo DiCaprio for Netflix's hit movie Don't Look Up.
The Oscar-winner made the comments in an interview with
Vogue to promote an upcoming film, during which the persistent pay gap between Lawrence and her male co-stars in Hollywood was raised.
Vanity Fair reports that Lawrence was paid $25 million for her part in Don't Look Up, compared to DiCaprio’s $30 million.
Meanwhile, it had previously been revealed that Lawrence was also paid considerably less than her male co-stars for 2013's American Hustle.
While Lawrence admitted that she feels actors at her level are overpaid, she added that she still finds the gender pay gap in Hollywood bothersome.
“It doesn’t matter how much I do," Lawrence said.
"I’m still not going to get paid as much as that guy, because of my vagina?"
Don't Look Up stared DiCaprio and Lawrence as two astronomers attempting to warn humanity about an approaching comet that will destroy human civilisation.
While critical reaction to the satire was mixed, the movie was a hit for Netflix and earned four Oscar nominations, including for Best Picture.
Lawrence will next star in Causeway, in which she plays a US soldier who suffers a traumatic brain injury while fighting in Afghanistan and struggles to adjust to life back home.
It premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival this week.
