The performance of Heard’s legal team was criticised throughout the case
Elaine Bredehoft, the lawyer who served as Amber Heard‘s attorney during both of her defamation cases, is officially stepping down from representing the actor in any future court proceedings.
As detailed in a statement from her legal team and picked up by Law & Crime Network, who covered the entirety of the Depp-Heard trial, it was confirmed that while fellow attorney Ben Rottenborn will remain as co-counsel, Bredehoft is “stepping down” from her duties.

Among a number of gaffes made by Heard’s lawyers throughout the trial, including Rottenborn objecting to his own question, co-counsel Bredehoft went viral after impersonating Johnny Depp’s voice during her cross-examination.
The press release also reveals that she has already been replaced by attorneys David L. Axelrod and Jay Ward Brown of Ballard Spahr – the same law firm that won a defamation lawsuit against former Alaskan governor and Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, while representing The New York Times.
Like Palin, Heard is seeking an appeal against the decision which ruled in favour of ex-husband Depp following claims of physical and emotional abuse, as well as defamatory actions which affected careers on both sides.
As seen in the above statement, a spokesperson for the 36-year-old said they see the judge’s decision “not ‘as the beginning of the end, but the end of the beginning'”, as well as hinting that they are confident of a different result this time given that “so much new evidence has come to light.
Issuing a first statement as her new representatives, the pair said: “We welcome the opportunity to represent Ms. Heard in this appeal as it is a case with important First Amendment implications for every American.
“We’re confident the appellate court will apply the law properly without deference to popularity, reverse the judgement against Ms. Heard, and reaffirm the fundamental principles of Freedom of Speech.”
Meanwhile, although Depp seems to be free from allegations for now and has even signed a new seven-figure deal with Dior’s male fragrance brand, Sauvage, many celebrities now appear to have been unliking the statement he posted following the case.
