President-elect Donald Trump clearly not too busy to slate “over-rated” Meryl Streep on Twitter

Surely he has more important things to be doing?

Conor Heneghan

The same Meryl Streep who has been nominated for more Academy Award nominations than anyone in the movie business.

The 74th annual Golden Globes took place in Beverly Hills on Sunday night and of the many standout moments from the ceremony, Meryl Streep’s speech was the one everyone was talking about afterwards.

After receiving the Cecil B. Demille Award at the ceremony, Streep launched into an attack on Trump, blasting his policies on immigration, examples of bullying and disrespect and his apparent mocking of New York Times reporter Serge Kovaleski, who has a physical disability.

Trump had already defended himself against accusations that he was mocking Kovaleski in the past and did so again from his Twitter account on Monday morning, where he also took the opportunity to get his own back at Streep.

Following on from his labelling of the actress as a “Hillary lover” and dismissing the criticisms of “liberal movie people,” Trump called Streep a “Hillary flunky” and “one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood”.

Quite a claim to make of a woman who has three Oscars wins and a further 16 nominations over a stellar career lasting four decades.

Seen Deer Hunter lately, Donald?
