Dick Van Dyke has revealed two secrets to a long life as the Hollywood legend turns 100 years old today.
A cultural symbol, Van Dyke is a Hollywood legend whose legacy spans generations, starring in some of the most iconic films of the 20th century including Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Speaking about turning 100, he said: "The funny thing is, it's not enough. 100 years is not enough. You want to live more, which I plan to."
The centenarian will be celebrating his landmark birthday this weekend as tributes paid to the actor with a new documentary as well as a flash mob at his home in Malibu, California.
However, as the 100-year-old jokingly admitted in an interview with NBC News before his birthday, he said the question he gets asked the most is "why are you still walking around?"
In answering this, the actor revealed one of his secrets to such longevity.
He said that his wife Arlene Silver, 54, is a "health nut" and that they go to the gym multiple times a week.
"That’s good advice for anybody of course,” he noted, adding that she "keeps me young".
“She gives me energy, she gives me humour and all kinds of support.”
“Arlene is half my age, and she makes me feel somewhere between two-thirds and three-quarters my age, which is still saying a lot,” he revealed in his new book.
"Every day she finds a new way to keep me up and moving, bright and hopeful and needed."
The other tip he said has helped his longevity is singing.
In an interview with Today on 18 November, he said that "singing is the best thing you can do for yourself".
He explains that he still performs with his acapella group the Vantastix.
He added: "Usually I wake up with an old tune going through my head."
The star has also previously attributed his longevity to his optimism, dancing and not getting angry.
Van Dyke is the subject of a new documentary and has released a book titled 100 Rules For Living To 100: An Optimist's Guide To A Happy Life.
