The film will also star Billy Magnussen and Daniela Melchior

Conor McGregor has landed his first major acting gig alongside Nightcrawler’s Jake Gyllenhaal in a remake of the 80s classic Road House.

While details about the film are still scarce, Gyllenhaal, who is no stranger to a fight film, will be playing a former UFC fighter turned bouncer. McGregor’s role has not yet been revealed, but his years of experience in the ring will undoubtedly help.

Announcing the news on Twitter, Amazon Studios wrote: “Fight icon Conor McGregor expands his storied career into film to join Jake Gyllenhaal in the reimagining of the beloved classic, Road House.”

The flick will be directed by Doug Liman and is written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry, both of which worked on the original film. Other notable names on the cast list include Billy Magnussen from Ingrid Goes West and Daniela Melchior, who you might remember as Rat Catcher in 2021’s The Suicide Squad.

The 1989 original film, directed by Rowdy Herrington, starred the late Patrick Swayze as James Dalton, a “cooler” at a diver bar in Missouri. Gyllenhaal will play a cooler once again, though this time at a dive bar in the Florida Keys.

Reacting to the news, one fan wrote: “Ain’t even gonna lie I’m excited about this one. Gyllenhaal better grow out the Swayze mullet tho.”

“Ok, I’m a Conor fan again!” another wrote.

But not everyone is sold, with some wondering why Amazon would choose to remake the classic at all.

“REMAKE ANYTHING ELSE PLEASE GOD LEAVE ROADHOUSE ALONE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO,” wrote one Twitter user.

Another quipped: “Reimagining? Yeah reimagining as absolute god awful dogs**t.”
