Chris Evans hits out at Trump for telling people not to be afraid of COVID

“This is reckless to a shocking degree, even for you.”

Chris Evans is best known for playing Captain America, but he’s been no stranger for speaking out about real-world problems. He has been a vocal opponent of Donald Trump on Twitter and never been shy about speaking out against the President.

On Monday, Donal Trump returned to the White House after being hospitalised with COVID-19.

Prior to his departure, Trump tweeted that Americans should not be “afraid” of the coronavirus.

“I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30 P.M,” he tweeted. “Feeling really good! Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life. We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge. I feel better than I did 20 years ago!”

Many thought that this sentiment was dangerous – especially considering that over 210,000 Americans have died after getting the virus.

Amongst the many that spoke out was Chris Evans, who tweeted calling him “reckless to a shocking degree”.

“Don’t be afraid of Covid?!” the tweet said.

“You’ve been under round-the-clock care by the best doctors using the best drugs. Do you really think everyone has access to that?! Sadly, I’m sure you’re aware of that disparity, you just don’t care.”

“This is reckless to a shocking degree, even for you.”

The tweet has gotten nearly 300,000 likes, and many replies agreeing with Evans.

Donald Trump has received much criticism for his actions following his diagnosis, including greeting his supporters whilst in a hermetically sealed SUV with secret service agents and removing his mask as soon as he returned to the White House.

In July 2019, Chris Evans previously called Donald Trumps behaviour “racist” on Twitter.

“This is racist, Biff,” Evans tweeted. “The only thing worse than actually being hateful and racist, is casually wielding hate and racism to activate your base in an unrelenting, painfully transparent, and crushingly on-brand effort to soothe your only true devotion: feeding your insatiable ego.”
