British music festivals ban glitter

You might want to think about what you're packing in your bum bag

You might want to think about what you’re packing in your bum bag

A number of independent British festivals have pledged to ban single-use plastic on their sites this coming summer.

Known as the ‘Drastic on Plastic’ initiative led by the Association of Independent Festivals (AIF), all 61 of its members have signed up for it.

Known for their huge waste output, festivals will eliminate straws, toiletry bottles, plastic drinks bottles, food trays, cable ties and glitter from all sites by 2021 – all thanks to the project.

Popular festivals signed up include Bestival, Boardmasters and Kendal Calling.

Most glitter is not biodegradable.

But fear not, you can still get it on. Eco-friendly glitter is permitted on site and easily obtainable – ASOS sell it for starters.
