Looking to fight off those Sunday scaries? A way to do that could be to check out one or two of the following movies airing on TV this evening.
Le Mans '66 - Film4 - 9pm
Also known as Ford v Ferrari, this thrilling sports drama tells the story of two racing experts (Christian Bale and Matt Damon) as they aim to build a revolutionary car for Ford to defeat Ferrari with at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966.
Venom - E4 - 9pm
A very fun Tom Hardy performance just about makes this so-so superhero flick that launched a franchise worth watching.
Halloween II - Sky Sci-Fi - 9pm
The first sequel in the iconic slasher series.
Little Nicky - Comedy Central - 9pm
Adam Sandler is Satan's son in this fantasy comedy.
Await Further Instructions - Horror Xtra - 9pm
In this creepy British horror, a family wakes up on Christmas Day to find a mysterious black substance surrounding their house while their TV screen broadcasts a single message: "Stay indoors and await further instructions."
Candyman - BBC Three - 10pm
The pretty decent 2021 reboot of the Candyman franchise, for which JOE interviewed some of its cast.
Hellbound: Hellraiser II - Horror Xtra - 10.50pm
Another first sequel in a long-running franchise, this time for the horror series Hellraiser.
Saw IV - Sky Max - 11.15pm
With the 10th edition in the Saw franchise currently in cinemas and earning the horror franchise's best reviews yet, what better time to revisit this fourth entry in the series.
Licorice Pizza - BBC Two - 11.20pm
Our pick for tonight is this 2021 comedy-drama from one of the modern great filmmakers Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, The Master, There Will Be Blood).
Set in '70s Los Angeles, Licorice Pizza revolves around the relationship between a teen actor (Cooper Hoffman, son of Philip Seymour) and a directionless young woman (Alana Haim, member of the popular band Haim) as they cross paths with various figures - including a Hollywood acting legend (Sean Penn), an eccentric movie producer (Bradley Cooper) and a politician in the running to be LA's mayor (Benny Safdie).
The film's charming performances from Haim and Hoffman, its scene-stealing turn from Cooper, as well as its beautiful and nostalgic recreation of the period in which its set led the movie to earn three Oscar nominations, including for Best Picture.
Boasting a 90 per cent Rotten Tomatoes score, Licorice Pizza is also available to rent on Rakuten TV.
