Alec Baldwin shooting recreated

The visual representation was submitted by lawyers as a reconstructed form of evidence

An animation company hired by the lawyers representing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins have recreated the moment she was fatally shot by actor Alec Baldwin on the set of the movie Rust back in October 2021.

In the rather jarring 40-second digital reconstruction, you can see an animated character clearly resembling the 63-year-old sitting on the pews of a church set, before the gun – thought to be empty – is fired in the direction of those behind the camera.

The incident which occurred in New Mexico on October 21 2021 killed Hutchins and wounded director Joel Souza. You can see the full Baldwin shooting recreated, down below:

The recreation was put together by DK Global, an animation company that specialises in putting together visual representations for legal cases. They were hired by Hutchins’ family who are currently in the midst of a lawsuit against Baldwin and other members of the crew.

The Ukrainian cinematographer and former journalist was survived by her husband Matthew and their nine-year-old son, Andros. The family, along with script supervisor Mamie Mitchell, are suing multiple members of the Rust production staff for “wrongful death”, claiming they disregarded several industry-wide practices designed to ensure safety on movie sets.

Baldwin himself has insisted that he was told the prop gun was safe before firing but assistant director Dave Halls has since admitted that he didn’t check the gun before it was handed over to be used.

Baldwin has previously said that he pointed and fired the gun in Hutchins’ direction as per instruction and it went off without having pulled the trigger; however, it is also said by attorneys that he turned down training for the kind of gun draw he was supposed to do when the accidental shooting took place.
