Baldwin himself has insisted that he was told the prop gun was safe before firing but assistant director Dave Halls has since admitted that he didn't check the gun before it was handed over to be used.
Baldwin has previously said that he pointed and fired the gun in Hutchins' direction as per instruction and it went off without having pulled the trigger; however, it is also said by attorneys that he turned down training for the kind of gun draw he was supposed to do when the accidental shooting took place.
