Aldi’s huge ‘Big Daddy’ steak is coming back this week

James Dawson

It weighs nearly half a kilo and costs less than a fiver

This is not drill, I repeat this is not a drill. Aldi is bringing back its huge ‘Big Daddy’ steak this Thursday and it costs just £4.99.

It weighs 16oz in total –  or nearly half a kilogram – and the retailers claims the steak is 100g bigger and 42 per cent cheaper than its Tesco equivalent.

Sadly, getting your hands on one could be a challenge, as it is being re-released as a ‘Specialbuy’ – meaning stock is limited and the steaks will only supplied to certain stores on 18 January.

Aldi’s Julie Ashfield, Joint Managing Director of Corporate Buying at Aldi UK, said: “This premium British rump steak is an example of Aldi’s commitment to offering quality, locally-sourced products at amazing low prices, once again allowing customers to make substantial savings on luxury products without compromise.”

The rump is made up of several different muscles from the rear. It’s a lean steak with a great mix of texture and rich flavours.

It has the benefits of a fillet but with more flavour. It’s best thick-cut and cooked over a very high heat, with a generous resting time up to 10 minutes.

Definitely not something to miss out on.
