Surely it can’t be any worse than Suicide Squad

A new standalone Joker film starring Jared Leto is coming to cinema screens, and it has been revealed that the actor/singer has also signed on as producer.

Warner Bros. is set to move forward with production on the film which will see Leto reprise the role he played in the critically panned but commercially successful Suicide Squad – the 2016 blockbuster which centred around a rag-tag group of miscreant criminals with skills ranging from being an alligator, having the power to manipulate fire and being able to throw a boomerang.

Leto famously took his role as Joker incredibly seriously during filming of the box office hit, with reports suggesting that he went as far as sending – among other things – a live rat and bullets to his co-stars to truly get inside the mind of the villain, despite the fact that there is no mention in Batman canon of the character committing such a heinous act.

The announcement follows previous confirmations of further feature films based around characters from the Batman universe, with Margot Robbie reportedly set to reprise the role of Harley Quinn in a standalone feature.

It remains unknown whether the movie will be released before or after the Suicide Squad sequel, or whether it will tie in with the plot of the movie in any way whatsoever.
