A spokesperson for ITV said: "As Kate lays bare in the film, her family, along with many others who have suffered the effects of the virus, is now facing the reality of adjusting to a very different way of life to the one they lived before the pandemic hit."
As a result of his long battle against the virus, Derek has suffered extensive damage to his body. He was put into a coma in April last year in attempt to help his body fight the deadly virus.
The former Labour Party advisor has suffered from kidney failure, heart failure and liver damage. Derek is said to have holes in his lungs from the bacterial pneumonia. He has also lost approximately 8 stone in weight since March last year.
Derek and Kate have two children, Darcey and Billy, who reside with Kate as Derek remains in hospital with serious health problems.Explore more on these topics:
