Pictures on social media appear to show one house completely flattened and another seriously damaged.

South Wales Police are urging people to avoid the area.

The force and the Welsh Ambulance Service said they were called just after 11:20am to a report of an explosion at a property.

According to local Facebook groups, a house exploded on Clydach Road near Cwm Arian – and it was completely destroyed.

It has been claimed that up to 20 houses were damaged in the explosion, but this is yet to be confirmed, The Mirror reported.

Morriston Town AFC football club said it was “devastated” to hear the news and said locals should not hesitate to contact the club and come in to keep warm, the BBC reported.
