Dominic West says he leapt “in the air with joy” over Trump getting COVID

The Wire star Dominic West said he leapt “in the air with joy” when he heard that Donald Trump had tested positive for COVID-19.

The actor was being interviewed on Good Morning Britain to talk about his work with the Prince’s Trust, when host Kate Garraway what his reaction was to the news about President Trump.

“Well, I did slightly leap in the air with joy.”

“[Trump] said ‘It is what it is,” and I think the phrase is, ‘What goes around, comes around.’ I just hope it doesn’t interfere with him being elected out of office, that’s all.”

“There’s an element of schadenfreude I suppose,” West replied when Garraway asked if he thought it was karma. “I’m not a fan of his, as you can probably tell. I just hope Biden stays healthy and gets the presidency as quickly as possible.”

“I think Trump is a catastrophe for America and for the world.”

Garraway’s co-host Adil Ray then asked Dominic West what effect seeing Trump with the virus will have on those protesting lockdown restrictions.

“I don’t know. I’m not sure much has an impact on them. Hopefully it means they will take it more seriously, and realise the huge numbers of deaths in America are not an inevitability, and that people need to take this virus very seriously. Hopefully that will be one of the effects of it.”

Donald Trump announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19 late on Thursday.

“Tonight,” Trump wrote, “@FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately.”

“We will get through this TOGETHER!”

The news of Trump’s contracting the virus comes after one of his closest aides, Hope Hicks, also tested positive after travelling with the president on Air Force One multiple times.

“Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for Covid-19,” Trump tweeted.
