WhatsApp have launched a new feature, and we’re not sure how we feel about it

WhatsApp have rolled out a new feature on their messaging that has made it very similar to other social media apps. While the convenience and simplicity of WhatsApp has always been one of the main selling points of the app for users, eight years on from their launch in 2009, they're making an update which may change how you use the app. The app was originally set up as a way of letting people know what you were up to by way of a status. But that evolved over the years into a messaging app, first for simple text and then later, for different kinds of media. Now similar to Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat, they're going to allow users to share 'moments' if you so wish. But it will not be just the option of sharing your moments with individual people or certain groups, the option of sharing your moment with all your contacts on WhatsApp will be there. While WhatsApp say this isn't a new feature, but rather a reinvention of their old status, from today they  will be rolling out the feature so you should see it if you update the app. According to a statement from WhatsApp:

• As soon as you open the new Status tab, you'll see updates from friends and family who are WhatsApp users in your address book. You can reply privately to your friends' updates and control who sees what you share. All updates expire after 24 hours. And like other types of messages, you can mute or unmute contacts at any time.
• WhatsApp Status test is rolling out to users starting today and will be available soon around the world for iPhone, Android, and Windows Phone users.
