There has been a lot of speculation as to what the emoji means.
It has now been revealed that the emoji is actually part of an anti-bullying campaign, and is a symbol of solidarity for those who want to stand up against online bullying.
This is all part of a new digital campaign called "I Am a Witness", created by San Francisco agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners with the Ad Council and Adobe, Apple, Facebook, Google, Johnson & Johnson and Twitter.
The emoji can be found in the symbols section.
The idea is that when you are a witness to what you deem cyber-bullying, you post the emoji, whether it's in a whatsapp group or on a viral Facebook post.
Kate Baynham, Goodby copywriter, who worked on the campaign, explained:
"Our research showed that 60% of bullying will stop in 10 seconds if someone intervenes."
We know an emoji is never going to solve such a huge and loaded issue, but we love the idea behind this.Tech
