The Call of Duty 4 remaster is looking absolutely awesome

See you online

You’re probably aware that Call of Duty is off to space this year in Infinite Warfare, but as exciting as the prospect of zero-gravity, interplanetary dogfights may be, we might be more excited about the remaster of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare that launches alongside the new title.

Modern Warfare is probably the best-loved game in the series’ long history and its exceptional multiplayer mode – while improved and upgraded in subsequent instalments in the franchise – has probably never been surpassed in terms of innovation. It really set a new bar for online shooters.

The single player campaign was equally as memorable. CoD games become more cinematic with each release, but Modern Warfare’s often shocking plot twists and varied mission structure made such an impression that people still talk about it today – even if it was a bit on the short side.

For all these reasons, we can’t wait to get our hands on the souped up version of the game later this year. Activision have released a new trailer that features a whole play-through of Crew Expendable, the mission where you infiltrate a cargo ship during a huge storm. The graphical upgrade is pretty impressive.

The bad news is that you won’t be able to just go out and buy the shiny remaster on launch day. The game is only available, at least initially, to those that pre-order the pricey Legacy Editions or Digital Deluxe Edition of Infinite Warfare. You’re going to have to cough up for this particular burst of nostalgia, but at least you know the game is worth it.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered arrives on 4 November
